I'll start by introducing us...we're Tom and Chel...married parents of two beautiful daughters and High School Sweethearts who have been together for 13 years. Tom LOVES movies...and I love Tom, so therefore, I have learned to love movies. Once upon a time, when we both had jobs and no responsibilities, we went to see every new movie that came out. We were always confident in our Oscar picks because we knew the films and we knew the performances.
Fast forward to today...I'm a stay-at-home mom, we have a house and student loans and car loans and kids, and instead of date nights consisting of dinner at a mid-priced restaurant and a movie IN the theater, it's pretty much McDonald's and a RedBox. But we still love movies, and we try to see as many as we can! The best part is our conversations about them afterward. We're both opinionated, and sometimes we don't agree, and that makes for a very lively discussion.
So, a few months back I floated the idea that we write movie reviews. Not of new movies, necessarily, due to the aforementioned budgetary restraints, but of movies already out on DVD. We'll each write a review from our own perspective (me - SAHM, Type AB personality, Twilight-loving, semi-cynical realist who thinks the Coen Brothers can do no wrong and Tom - hardworking, BA in Film Studies, somewhat forgetful idealist who measures all films against Pulp Fiction - his "Rosetta Stone of cinema"), and rate it on a scale yet to-be-determined.
We'll pick our first movie soon! I'll warn you...we both have to be at least SOMEWHAT interested in the movie, so you won't see anything overtly girly (Eat, Pray, Love) or excessively Chop Sake (Enter the Dragon). We'll attempt to translate our witty banter into type as best as we can! Hope you enjoy!
